Built for little hands and busy caregivers
CalmPlay Minis started with a simple frustration: every kids app was either overloaded with ads, too complex for toddlers, or left caregivers hovering over a screen. We decided to build something better.
Our story
We are parents, teachers, and designers who grew tired of handing tablets to kids only to find ad-riddled, overstimulating apps that demanded constant adult intervention.
The apps aimed at preschoolers either required reading skills children hadn't developed yet or buried every useful feature behind confusing menus. Sessions would end in tantrums because there was no built-in timer and no gentle way to transition away.
CalmPlay Minis was born from the belief that screen time doesn't have to be a source of stress. We set out to create a library of ultra-simple, short-form activities that kids navigate on their own while caregivers stay in control of what matters: difficulty, play time, and safety.
Our mission
We exist to deliver trustworthy, low-effort screen time that keeps young kids engaged and caregivers confident. Every decision we make passes a simple test: does this make the experience calmer and easier?
We design for single-handed reality, because real life with a toddler rarely gives you two free hands. We earn every pixel, removing anything that doesn't help the next action. We make states unmistakable, so kids always know where they are.
Most importantly, we prefer prevention over instruction. Rather than warning a child about mistakes, we design layouts and constraints that reduce mistakes from the start.
What we stand for
Four principles guide everything we build, from activity design to the settings screen.
Calm by Design
Low-stimulation is not a limitation—it’s a feature. We keep pacing steady, feedback gentle, and animations purposeful so play stays enjoyable without overstimulation.
Trust at Every Tap
Caregivers should never worry about what happens next. No ads, no outbound links, no surprise purchases. Settings stay behind a parent gate, always.
Simplicity First
Everything essential is obvious. We design for non-readers with large touch targets, single-action screens, and minimal choices. If a 3-year-old can’t figure it out, we redesign.
Playful, Not Gimmicky
Warm encouragement, friendly shapes, and celebratory feedback that stays brief. Variety comes from themes and activities, not interface complexity.
